Introduction

Everyone wants that smooth and radiant complexion without dark spots and discoloration. And now there are an array of products on the market claiming to help you achieve this. But which ones can really help you, are convenient, and won't cost a small fortune? This review examines SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 to see if it could be the one to offer you all these things. Lytera 2.0 is a paraben-free formulation containing key ingredients such as tranexamic acid and phenylethyl resorcinol to help fade skin discoloration and improve skin tone with claims to work in as early as two weeks. But is this product the best choice for you? Read more to find out why this product came in at our #5 spot.

Ingredients

The main ingredients this product includes are:

  • Tranexamic Acid
  • Phenylethyl Resorcinol
  • Niacinamide & Tetrapeptide-30
  • Marine Extract Blend
  • Phytic Acid
The manufacturer provides very little information about what these ingredients do. These ingredients all sound very scientific and the manufacturer does a good job with before and after pictures of the results some customers experienced, so we would have liked to see links to any clinical studies. We don't like that the consumer will need to go on a Googling mission to determine what exactly these ingredients are and if they are safe. Some of these ingredients, such as Phenylethyl Resorcinol, do seem to have clinical studies supporting it. It would have been nice to include some of this information from the manufacturer so the consumer does not need to decipher it all. In addition, it is also not stated what percentage of the formula these ingredients make up.

How To Use

Apply one pump of the product to clean skin on the face, neck, chest and any other affected areas twice a day. For best results, use in the morning and evening before applying a moisturizer.

Price

Unfortunately, Lytera 2.0 is not conveniently sold from its product page. It seems the only place you can get the product is from a physician, which gives a more medical feel to it and is inconvenient each time you wish to reorder. The website provides a tool to find a physician near you where you can get the product. The retail price that the manufacturer suggests is $154, making this a very expensive choice. SkinMedica warns against buying from unauthorized sellers as they cannot guarantee their efficacy.

Guarantee

There is no mention of any type of satisfaction guarantee or return policy on the product's site. As this product is only authorized to be sold by physicians, it is unlikely you will have any recourse if the product doesn't work for you. At the high price of $154, that is a huge risk.

Conclusion

We like that Lytera 2.0 is based on science, formulated by scientists and skin biologists and that it gives the impression of a product proven to work. However, the product seems a bit too clinical in nature. And with a company that focuses so much on science and using clinically proven ingredients, they don't provide much information about these ingredients or any links to clinical studies that show the ingredients are, in fact, proven to work. The biggest drawback of this product is that it is only available from a physician which takes away from the convenience of buying a trusted product online. We're all busy people and to find the time to go to a physician each time you want to reorder can be annoying. Also, the product is very expensive and there is no money-back guarantee if this does not work for you. We prefer to go with the scientifically formulated products that are also convenient to purchase and come backed with a guarantee, which is why this product only came in at our #5 spot.
