They are more concentrated with ingredients compared to moisturizers and are designed to be absorbed deeply into the skin to work their magic. It is, therefore, important to choose a night serum with proven effective ingredients. Does Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair provide what it takes to achieve the very best results? While there were things we liked about this product, find out why it fell to our #5 spot.
Ingredients
As mentioned, the ingredients are what makes an effective product. As serums are so concentrated, you only want the very best ingredients absorbed into your skin. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair mentions a long list of ingredients on their website but they only make special mention of one ingredient in particular - Hyaluronic Acid. This ingredient is powerful for locking in moisture. However, the actual quantity of this ingredient is not specified. While this ingredient is beneficial, it is unfortunate that there isn't more to the product's ingredient list. It contains no patented ingredients and there is no indication of the percentage of active ingredients to be found in the product. It is also discouraging that this product contains synthetic dyes Red 4 (CI 14700), Yellow 5 (CI 19140).
How To Use
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair comes in a dropper bottle which you apply to your skin after cleansing and before you put on a moisturizer. Use only several drops at a time and smooth over your whole face and neck. It is disappointing that this product does not come in a pump bottle for easier application and also because pump bottles help keep the stability of the ingredients and prevent contamination.
Price
You can buy a 1 oz bottle for $70 or a 1.7 oz bottle $100. Both of these options are available directly from the manufacturer's website. There is the option to sign up for an auto-renewal program where you can have the product automatically delivered to you at various intervals. However, there doesn't seem to be any financial benefit to signing up to this program as no discounts are offered. Be wary of signing up for such programs as you may have a difficult time canceling or forget to cancel and will be charged for a product you may not necessarily want. You may also unknowingly continue to be charged even after canceling.
Guarantee
Estée Lauder mention they have a satisfaction guarantee, however, there are not many details provided about this guarantee. There is no indication how long you have to return a purchase and if both opened and closed bottles can be returned for a refund.
Conclusion
Estée Lauder is a well-established brand with many happy customers. However, when digging a little deeper into their Advanced Night Repair serum, it is not so clear exactly what makes it stand out compared to other products. This product only seems to contain one main active ingredient and some other antioxidant ingredients which isn't really different to other products out there. It does not contain any patented ingredients which really give a product an edge over others. It is also not indicated how much of the Hyaluronic Acid is contained within this formula and it also contains synthetic dyes which is a major drawback. While the price is good, it is not clear what kind of guarantee this product comes with. We would prefer more transparency.
