In our search for the top day serums, we uncovered both new and older brands in order to find the best formula at the best price. What we found is that the ingredients make a tremendous difference because serums are so lightweight and penetrate so deeply into the skin. We balanced the reputation of each skincare brand along with the efficacy of each formula in order to select day serums that can be trusted to do what they say they do.

When we delved into No7 Lift & Luminate TRIPLEACTION Serum we immediately liked that this company has been around for decades. Since 1935, No7's aim has been to give every woman the tools she needs to look and feel her best. It started off as a UK brand and over the years has been sold all over the world. It’s a brand many of us grew up with and inherently trust. Additionally, this serum contains Matrixyl, which is known as an effective anti-aging ingredient in skincare.

The downside is that because this company has been around for so long, its products have not really evolved with the times. For example, there are parabens and fragrances in their formulas. With recent studies showing the potential danger of parabens, this was shocking to see. The addition of the fragrance, while not necessarily dangerous, could lead to adverse reactions such as skin irritations. Furthermore, many skincare brands will have 2 types of serums - one for daytime use and one for nighttime use (for a deeper repair). No7 has this one serum to be used at both times.

Ingredients

Serums are known to be lightweight and powerful and therefore rely on a unique formula to set it apart from competing products. Our main focus when checking the efficacy of a product is to check that it has a strong amount of patented ingredients and that it does not contain many filler ingredients which can dilute the potency of active ingredients and/or be harmful to the skin.

The key ingredient in No7 Lift & Luminate TRIPLEACTION Serum is Matrixyl, which is excellent. There are studies proving how Matrixyl works to promote more youthful skin.

Our major issue is there is only a solitary patented ingredient found in this formula. Many studies will look at the anti-aging effects using complementary ingredients. Therefore we would have liked to see at least one other patented ingredient here.

More concerning, though, is the addition of a fragrance and parabens. Out of the hundreds of skincare brands we have reviewed, we found that many are making strides to rid their products of fragrances and parabens. Fragrances may cause skin to be irritated in people with certain sensitivities. Parabens, in large quantities, have been proven to be harmful. Some companies claim that they include safe quantities, however, how many parabens are you putting on your skin, hair, etc? The cumulative amount could very well surpass the safe, recommended amount.

In addition, there are a plethora of inactive ingredients. This makes us wonder how effective the one active ingredient really is when it is potentially diluted with so many filler ingredients.

Conclusion

Day serums are usually marked by their potent combination of selected ingredients in order to penetrate deeply into the skin. While we like that No7 Lift & Luminate TRIPLEACTION Serum does contain a patented ingredient, the many filler ingredients which also include potentially dangerous materials, is concerning. We appreciate that this product is less expensive than others we have reviewed, but consumers will actually go through a bottle faster than those of other brands because this serum is meant to be used both during the day and at night. (Most skincare brands have separate night and day formulas.)

In this day and age, we expect to find an ideal combination of natural ingredients merged with the latest scientific discoveries. While No7 stands out as being a stable, well-known skincare brand, with one potent, active ingredient, we were surprised to see the additions of parabens and a fragrance.

If you have a limited budget, don't have sensitive skin and don't mind if this doesn't work for you, you may want to try this one. However, if you are looking for real anti-aging results, we suggest trying one of our other top choices for day serum.
