Introduction

SkinCeuticals has a very clever name which implies a more scientific take than the average skincare brand. We were particularly interested to review this face cream because day serums, specifically, need clinically backed ingredients in order to effectively promote more youthful skin. Formulas for day serums are usually thin and light so that their active ingredients can penetrate deeply into the dermal layers of the skin.

Upon investigation, we came across some surprising facts about SkinCeuticals Face Cream. First is that there is no inclusion of patented ingredients. Patented ingredients are the ones based on proven clinical studies and would be expected in a brand which advertises that they are ‘backed by science’. Secondly, while we like the look and flow of this website, it is somewhat misleading. There is a heading called ‘Science & Proof’ which does not offer any proof, just a scientific claim. Also, there are many links throughout the website which encourage the user to click in order to learn more, but it doesn’t lead to any clinical proof. Is this meant to discourage the user from finding out more?

The key active ingredients which are listed are natural as well as in the realm of what we look for in a day serum. However, we could not wholeheartedly recommend this product due to the extremely high price as well as the very slim return period that consumers are given. As such, SkinCeuticals Face Cream is firmly in our #4 spot for top day serums.

Ingredients

There are 3 key ingredients found in this product, they are:

  • Soy isoflavones - To stimulate collagen and hyaluronate production to help firm skin.
  • Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) - An emollient which provides an antioxidant effect.
  • Silymarin - An antioxidant to help protect against signs of aging.
When looking to learn about these active ingredients, we were encountered with a scarcity of information. The only one which SkinCeuticals offered was vitamin E. They state that alpha tocopherol plays an important role in neutralizing free radicals, moisturizing skin, and improving the appearance of visible skin aging.* Sounds amazing! If this is true, why not link to a third party site or clinical study to confirm this? The lack of transparency leads us to doubt the authenticity of SkinCeuticals and wonder what else it is not telling us.

With regards to the inactive ingredients, there are over 30 to be found in this face cream. There is no percentage listed of active or inactive ingredients which, again, is a lack of transparency on the company’s part.

How To Use

Apply once or twice per day to the entire face, neck and chest area.

Price

The SkinCeuticals Face Cream comes in a slightly larger bottle than most other day serums we have reviews. It contains 50 ml or 1.67 fluid ounces. Because of this, we expected it to be a bit more expensive than the other day serums we reviews, however, this a lot more than most people would deem affordable.

One bottle can be purchased for $142! Per fluid ounce, this is comparable to the third product we reviewed which was significantly higher than our top 2 day serum choices.

Guarantee

SkinCeuticals will accept returns on purchases made within 30 days only. There are instructions to on how go about claiming refunds on the SkinCeuticals website. It’s reassuring that there is a money-back guarantee, however, many people need a few weeks in order to see if a skincare product works. This policy may only be suited for consumers who are diligent about returns.

Conclusion

We really wanted to love the SkinCeuticals Face Cream. Science is the way forward with skincare and we embrace all skincare brands that strive to update their formulas for real anti-aging effects without surgery or injections. We were hopeful that SkinCeuticals was a skincare brand we could trust to provide us with clinical studies we could peruse ourselves. However, this was not to be. One gets the sense that rather than educating the consumer, the SkinCeuticals Face Cream is there to give the consumer the run-around. Why not explain the science or provide links to real scientific information? If a skincare brand was truly confident in its product, it would not have a website like this one. We would rather see a simpler website with real information instead of a circular maze of links that doesn’t provide any tangible evidence to the user.

Because there are natural ingredients which seem geared to the health of the skin, we were looking forward to examining the details of this product. We still think there is a chance it can be somewhat effective. It made it into our #4 spot because it does have a money-back guarantee if you return the face cream within 30 days. While this isn’t as long as some other guarantees we’ve seen, at least it’s something. Consumer should simply be aware that they have a limited time to try this product.

We would recommend going with one of our previous 3 choices fora day serum before trying this one.
